What is already known on this topic
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is quite common in childhood, can have a major impact on the child and family and can be the source of problems that persist long into adulthood. Previous UK studies have shown long-term economic impacts through the effects on service utilisation1 and disrupted employment patterns.2 International evidence supports these associations across much of the life-course and demonstrates the high personal and social costs.3
