Cognitive decline fastest in people with Alzheimers disease compared with other dementias

Are there differences in demographic features, cognitive decline and survival among people with vascular dementia, Alzheimers disease or Alzheimers disease with cerebrovascular disease?
970 of 3545 consecutive patients who were: diagnosed with "probable" vascular dementia (VaD; neuroepidemiology branch of the US National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and the Association Internationale pour la Recherche et lEnseignement en Neurosciences criteria); "probable" or "definite" Alzheimers disease (AD; National Institute of Neurologic and Communicative Disorders and Stroke and the AD and Related Disorders Association criteria); or Alzheimers disease with cerebrovascular disease (AD+CVD; clinical criteria for possible AD as for AD alone, plus clinical or brain imaging evidence of CVD). In addition, participants had to be examined at least twice for a minimum of 1 year, and have had a Dementia Rating Scale (DRS) measurement during the year of the first visit. The 2575 excluded patients did not meet the above inclusion
